Bach’s Motets are singular masterpieces in his production. Dating from his time in Leipzig, they were composed between 1727 and 1730 for exceptional ceremonies: funeral services for officials of high-rank. Each motet is a virtuoso composition for a double choir accompanied by instruments. Because of their rich composition and magnificence, they remained in the repertoire of Saint-Thomas of Leipzig, where they entranced Mozart when he heard them in 1789. As iconic expressions of the beauty and magnificence of baroque sacred music, they have known constant success since.
Valentin Tournet, who has demonstrated his passion for a lively and varied interpretation of Bach’s music, proposes a deep and virtuoso vision of this masterpieces, which will be recorded.
